What are dog enrichments?

Enrichment toys give your dog a chance to play, chase, smell, chew and scavenge. These are natural behaviours which allow dogs to be physically, emotionally, and mentally satisfied.

Dogs that don’t get this mental stimulation look for other ways to “enrich” themselves… like chewing the couch, organising your rubbish bin on the kitchen floor, and playing barking games late at night while you’re relaxing.

And since just about every dog has a desire for tasty treats, enrichment toys and natural treats work together pretty well!

Even better, these enrichment ideas will slow down even the fastest eaters. Now you can turn your two second chomper into a 15 minute game with these 5 easy enrichment ideas.

1. Mackerel Twirl Kong Cone

Recipe by: @maverickk_thegsd

The Kong Classic is one of the most popular enrichment toys for dogs.

Quick chewing treats can be stuffed inside the Kong, challenging your dog and keeping them busy much longer.

2. Whole Sardines in a Kong Bone

Recipe by: @kobe.siberianhusky

The Kong Bone is another great enrichment toy for dogs. The treats are not quite as challenging for your dog to reach, but can also suit larger treats.

  • QLD Whole Sardines
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Frozen strawberries
  • Chia Seeds
  • Plain Greek Yogurt
  • Unsweetened Peanut Butter
  • Served in a Kong Bone

3. Beef & Chicken Combo Wobble Bowl

Recipe by: @misslexa_thehusky

Dog enrichments don’t just have to be for treats. This idea can actually be used for your dog’s daily meals.

The LickiMat bowl wobbles as your dog eats, slowing down the eating but also challenging them while finishing the meal.

4. Whole Sardines & Quail Egg Kong Cone

Recipe by: @tomyumthehusky

This easy enrichment idea for dogs also uses the popular Kong Classic.

There is one whole sardine sticking out the top of the kong, but another inside which is a lot more difficult for your dog to reach!

5. Beef Cube and Peanut Butter LickiMat

Recipe by: @kobe.pawprints

This really simple enrichment idea uses peanut butter and yoghurt spread over the LickiMat to slow your dog down. It will keep them licking for a while trying to get every last bit out of the crevasses.

  • Crushed Beff Cubes
  • Unsalted Peanut Butter
  • Unsweetened Greek Yoghurt
  • Fresh Blueberries
  • Served in a LickiMat Slomo
